Jointly organized by the Macau Sport Development Board and the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, and co-organized by the Health Bureau, the 2013 World Challenge Day once again received good news. With active support from various government departments, organizations, companies, associations, schools and the community, the number of participants has recorded 261,873 in total, which marked as the highest over the last 12 years, accounting to 45% of the Macao’s population.

The 2013 World Challenge Day was held on May 29, drawing participation of citizens to conduct physical exercise for 15 minutes. According to The Association For International Sport for All (TAFISA), this year’s competing city, Jerusalem of Israel, had around 80,000 participants completing 15 minutes of exercise, which was about 10 % of her 800,000 population. Due to the overwhelming response and active participation of the citizens, Macao achieved 45% of participation and was declared as the winner of this year.

Through the World Challenge Day, the organizers hope to promote the message of exercising for a better health and spirit, and call for the citizens’ long-term participation in sports and enjoy the fun derived, as well as encouraging them to actively take part in the sports training, thus, creating a new climax for sports participation. Results have reflected that the government has made good achievement on promoting Sport for All, with people from all sectors not only being aware of the benefits of exercising, but also participate actively in the pursuit of an energetic lifestyle.

The Macau SAR Government attaches great importance to develop Sport for All activities, and Macau Sport Development Board organizes Sport for All fitness classes, sport-health advisory station, free sports ground, Sport for All Day and implements the Public Sports Facilities Network, which allows citizens to engage in sports activities, and hoping them to acquire the skills to participate in sports in a correct and healthy way, making sports activities to be converted into one of the leisure entertainment activities in our daily life.

It is believed that more citizens will adopt life-long participation in sport through daily sport practice. And the Macau SAR Government will continue her efforts in achieving the goal of Sport for All.
