Taking into account the many benefits of Walking related to health and pleasure of people of all ages TAFESA has developed, and ASFAA fully support


THE RULES

Since the World Walking Day is designed as a means to attract as many people as possible each event should pay attention to the following rules. They are a prerequisite for an event to be officially classified by TAFISA as "World Walking Day".

1. The event should be open to all sections the population i,e, families, handicapped, seniors etc...
2. The main route should not exceed 12 km (8 miles) and tend to be level and non-arduous.
3. A range of various routes should be offered to accommodate different levels of physical fitness (trained and untrained participants).
4. The walk route selected should not contain hazards, which could cause injury.
5. Safety and Security arrangements must be taken into account.
6. Events where extreme temperatures are a factor need to follow specific precautions.


THE CHRONOLOGY

June 7, 1992
The official launch takes place on the occasion of the Earth summit in Rio de Janero, Brazil.
In the presence of Pele, the U.S. Vice president Al Gore, Shirley Maclaine etc. 250,000 people made the event the largest ever in the world. The organizers were Prof., Lamartine Da Costa, Prof.Dr.J.Palm - PRESIDENT TAFISA, The Hon. lsaac Braz-Vice PRESIDENT TAFISA.

October 1993
More than 15 countries including Bulgaria, Germany, Nigeria, Israel, Singapore, Indonesia, and Austria participate in the first World Walking Day.

October 1994
The World Walking Day in 1994 had an increase in numbers of participation countries and participants.

June 25, 1995
TAFISA organized the first International Workshop on the World Walking Day in Netanya, Israel. 44 countries participated.

October 14-15, 1995
30 countries from all continents participated.

20 October, 1996
33 countries from all continents participated.

19 October, 1997
40 Countries from all continents participated.

18 October, 1998
46 Countries from all continents participated.

17 October, 1999
55 countries from all continents participated.

1 October, 2000
61 countries from all continents participated.

30 September, 2001
65 countries from all continents participated.

29 September, 2002
68 Countries particiapted.
