UN International day of Sport for Development and Peace Day

2014-04-06

As we celebrate the first UN Sport for Development and Peace Day, we also celebrate the Australian Sports Outreach Program (ASOP), whose work to date has shown that when quality sports programs are used strategically, they can make a positive difference in the lives of the most marginalised people.

The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace recognises sport as a genuine approach for developing and making communities stronger everywhere around the world.

Sport is a great way to manage the risk of chronic diseases by getting people more physically active more often and to help marginalised people develop life skills.

It also assists to improve participation in their local economy and to create more harmony within and between communities.
