Olympic Day 2009 in New Zealand

2009-06-12

Olympic Day this 23 June is a day where people from the different nations of the world can join together and celebrate the spirit of the Olympic Movement.

In New Zealand, thousands of school children take part in the Olympic Day Run and this year, we're honouring our 1000 New Zealand Olympians with a series of commemorative celebrations around the country. At these functions Olympians will be presented with an exclusively minted commerative pin and certificate featuring their own unique number together with the rings and fern.

The NZOC is also hosting a public lecture in Auckland about the myths and realtities around drugs in sport.

Olympic Day events have been held since 1948 and in 1987 the Olympic Day Run was launched.
