Steady progress in Qatar Schools Olympic Program activities

The preliminary rounds in football, volleyball, basketball and handball of the prestigious fourth edition of the Schools Olympic Program under the banner "Sport and Education" were held at different locations in Qatar on November 7.

Senior organisers from the Qatar Olympic Committee and the Supreme Education Council showed their confidence and hoped this edition to surpass all previous editions in respect of outcomes and quality.

All schools in Qatar from different learning levels including independent, government, private besides foreign communities schools, centers of people with special needs and other educational institutes were taking part in the prestigious event.

The program started in 2007-2008 under the theme "Sport for Health" and the second edition was held under the logo "Sport and Environment".

SOP third edition was entitled “Sport and Culture” which coincided with the country’s celebrations, Doha, Capital of Arab Culture 2010.

According to the SOP Committee, the event's fourth edition will be concluded on March 17 and 19, 2011, where the first day is allocated for girls' while the other two days are for boys'.

The main objective of School Olympic Program is to educate school students, and to make them believe that sport is not just for victory or defeat, but is an opportunity to gain a positive behaviour by preparing younger students to work in groups, as they could enjoy healthily life by practicing sport.
